Grand Opera House

Constructed at around the same time as Belfast City Hall... The Grand Opera House is renowned for being one of Belfast's best examples of fine, historic architecture. It was defined by the theatres trust with the statement: "the magnificent auditorium is probably the best surviving example in the United Kingdom of the oriential style applied to theatre architecture." The name of the building sums up the general apperance - The Grand Opera House.

The minute you set foot in the auditorium - the style and character jumps right at you. Recently constructed in 2006 - The "Baby Grand" lies to the right of the main theatre where guests most commonly enter and leave. The new, modern building was constructed for convenience,
especially to those with a disability. It offers a smaller theatre and an additional restaurant and bistro. The new extension was warmly welcomed... even if it doesn't correlate with the original building works.

The atmosphere and ambience when in the auditorium is more than what you would expect visiting the theatre. The seating structure surrounded by the original features can only enhance your experience of a Belfast performanc
e.

There
are always up and coming shows in the Grand Opera House. See our events page for further detail. Local actors such as May McFettridge often appear in the Opera House performances, which always leaves the audience in hysterics!
